The suburbs of Wilmington are large areas consisting of North Wilmington, Pike Creek, and Hockessin – just to name a few. The large area of North Wilmington predominantly developed after WW II, is home to many developments, public and parochial schools, parks, swim clubs, and anchored by the newly redeveloped DuPont Country Club. Homes in this area vary from split levels on quarter acre lots to turn of the century stone farm homes on 2 acres – and everything in between. Pike Creek and Hockessin communities are a bit newer as the suburbs around Wilmington spread into this area. The growth of the DuPont Company from the 1950s and the big bank boom in Wilmington in the 1980s, fostered the development of the Wilmington suburbs in general – all of which are thriving communities for generations to come. The Wilmington suburbs offer plenty of activities, a strong community, affordability, and access to convenient shopping areas, as well as proximity to I95 and the Philadelphia airport.
